Message from our Chair,
Gary Shea

As I write this, the state government is sort of operating, but without a budget it won’t be able to pay any bills or meet payroll. The federal government is mostly shut down. If you needed a reason to elect more Democrats, these are two good ones.

The October 16 club meeting will feature candidates for Berkley’s council and mayor; Mark Totten, an impressive candidate for Michigan Attorney General; and a deep dive into the Money Out of Politics initiative that we will likely see on the 2026 ballot.

IMPORTANT! If you’re a Berkley voter who gets an Absentee Ballot, you might hang on to it until you’ve heard from the Berkley candidates.

Make your voice heard in October —

- Club member Don Jones is organizing a NO KINGS event on October 18th in Oak Park and there are plenty of other NO KINGS events all around Metro Detroit. Details are on the Take Action page.

- Wynett Guy needs our help in the Southfield City Clerk race. I’ll be doing lit drops for her throughout October. Join me if you can. Details are on the Take Action page.

- Bring your little ones to the Oak Park Trunk of Treat event October 18 at the Water Tower district in OP. We’ll be there filling Halloween buckets for the kids and talking to parents. You could donate a bag of candy at the meeting on the 16th. Details are on the Events page.

Finally, here are two reasons to be optimistic: There will be millions of people at the NO KINGS protests nationally - we’re not alone! And the more Democratic candidates I meet, the more I think we will present the voters next year with a very strong Democratic slate. We’ll meet most of them at our monthly meetings in the coming months.

DSOC merch. PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR STORE IS CURRENTLY OFFLINE WHILE WE ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW VENDOR. STAY TUNED. Hoodies, sweatshirts, T-shirts, totes and hats are available in our online Store. Since we do not require payment of dues to join our club, the sale of our merchandise is one of our primary fundraising tools. Wearing DSOC merch not only shows you are a proud Democrat; it also promotes our club. These items also make great gifts!
